LineDroppers.com was founded in the summer of 2006 by two brothers who are passionate about fishing.   We are committed to growing the Internet's largest and most comprehensive database of successful fishing rig data.  We believe this information will help you enjoy more fishing success and we hope you will share your successes with others as well.  Any registered user has the option to upload information about successful rigs they have used along with pictures of those rigs and the fish they caught!

The Internet is full of information about fishing. You can easily find pictures of fish, popular fish locations, fishing tips,  online tackle sites, comprehensive message forums, etc. A lot of these sites are great and will help you become a better fisherman or just enjoy the sport.  With that said, if you are dedicated to becoming a better fisherman or you just want to catch more fish then the best way to achieve your goal is to model success.

If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the same results.

Our passion for fishing started when we were just young boys.  Our grandparents took us camping up in Catoctin Mountain near Frederick, Maryland.  We enjoyed running around the trails of Owen's Creek campground where we learned to love and respect nature.  The trails were fun but we spent most of our time running around and in the creek!  We didn't know it at the time, but the first fish we tried to catch were little brook trout that suprisingly enough are still native to that area.  I'll never forget the feeling of sneaking up on a pool to catch a glimpse of a little trout.  As we approached the pool, it was only a matter of time until you saw the fish darting for cover!  It's as much fun today as it was then although we are better fishermen now -- especially my brother.

My name is Mark Hammel and I am a manager for a software development company in Bethesda, Maryland.  I have spent the last 12 years either managing or leading development teams for various IT companies in Maryland and Northern Virginia.  I've really enjoyed combining my passion for fishing and software development into this web site.  I truly love what I do and am proud that we are able to deliver a high quality site to you for free.

My brother's name is Steve Hammel and he owns his own concession business in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area, where he lives today.  Luckily for my brother, he is surrounded by some of the best limestone streams in PA where he can fine tune his fly fishing skills on a regular basis.

Although we fish as much as we can, there are a handful of trips we can count on every year.  Every November and March we make regular trips with friends to Pine Creek Pennsylvania.  Pine Creek Valley is home to some of the most remote and trout-friendly waters on the East Coast.  A few of the pictures on the right side of your screen were taken from the Pine Creek area.  Two of the more popular runs are Slate and Cedar.  When you fish these runs, you truly feel like these areas are the same as they were a century ago.  There is nothing more satisfying than pulling out a 5 inch brook trout and then releasing him to be caught another day.

Hotel Manor on Slate Run

Another one of our regular trips is to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We generally stay anywhere from Duck up to the north end of Corolla.  You can usually catch something in the surf but if you are lucky enough to fish in late September to late October, the blue fishing is amazing.  It took a long time for us to realize the value of mullet rigs (as you will see in some of our submissions) but now that we have it's hard to keep us off the beach in the fall!  If surf fishing is not your thing or you want a change of pace, we highly recommend the Avalon Pier!  There are plenty of fishing options off the pier, but if the blue are running all you will need is a few gotcha plugs and you will have a blast.

Finally, thanks for taking the time to visit our site.  We truly are passionate about fishing and sharing our (and others) success with you.

Enjoy!
